Edit two hours later: I'm now in a very clean and comfortable room in a Red Roof Inn a few miles down the road, which charges $20 less per night vs has very polite staff. From here, I got online to check my credit card account. The charges are still on my card. I'll file a complaint with my credit card company tomorrow.
While I was checking that door, the same clerk showed up at the end of the hall and told me that he was going to call the police. I pointed out the faulty door and incomplete lock, but he paid no attention, and continued ranting that I couldn't touch the doors (in a hallway where nobody was staying. He'd been watching me on the security camera, he told me.). I asked for my money back enough times that he finally started back to the front desk, ranting as he went. I continued to demand my money back until I got a receipt saying that the charges on my card had been reversed. Then I set off, at 11:30pm, to find a motel that might rent me a room with a lock without accusing me of being a hooker and a burglar. This is by far the creepiest motel I have ever been to, with the worst customer service.
I checked in at 11pm. I've spent the day moving, I am exhausted, and I just wanted to go to sleep as quickly as possible. I asked for a non-smoking room, just for me, just for one night. The man at the desk asked me over and over whether it was really just me, and said, "Well, it's okay if you have friends over for a little while, you know..." I insisted that I wanted a place to sleep just for me, and he insisted that my "friends" would be okay. (He never directly said he was calling me a prostitute, but I have no idea what else he could have meant.) When I finally got the key, I gathered my bags from the car, and went to the room—where the first thing I heard was dripping. The bathtub was set on a slow drizzle, and apparently had been drizzling for days, because it was completely full. The shower curtain, sitting in the water, had a thick coat of mildew growing where it sat in the tub. I pulled the plug and the tub drained. I then walked around the room, considering whether I was tired enough to sleep here anyway, or was willing to go demand another room or my money back.
Then I looked at the door. The security slider lock was only attached to the door jamb. There was nothing to connect it to. The room had been remodeled, but they hadn't finished installing the whole lock. And the door rattled when I touched it, because it wasn't correctly installed in the door jamb. It occurred to me to wonder whether the clerk who was so sure I was a hooker had intentionally given me the room with the faulty door and incomplete locks. I stepped out in the hall and touched the door across the hall to see if it rattled the same way. It didn't. Neither did the door next to mine.
Not Impressed. Workers Don't Speak English... What A Sad Establishment...
Filthy, 2 towels for 3 people. What staff? You get dirty bed for bigger price. In bad area! Not safe for man or beast. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Wish it had reviews before staying here!
Staff is friendly, room appears to be newly renovated and done well, bathroom is a bit crowded but nice, AC/Heater a little noisy, Internet is horrible.
Stayed there on 2 different times both rooms were clean and had a fresh smell. There is a nice little bar and grill next door. I thought the price was a little high but not bad.
